Happy New HDTV Owner from Pacifica, CA

Ordered this Saturday. Got it Wednesday–super-fast (free) shipping. hooked it directly to the cable outlet (no box–std cable–and it took a few minutes but it found 73 Analog stations and 372 digital stations! Not all the digital ones had picture but I found a handful of pure HD channels that are gorgeous to behold. Good TV styling. Good remote layout. Very cool on-screen graphics and informative info on 480i or 480p or 720p or 1080i, etc. for each station. More than adequate sound but better when piped to the stereo. When this thing is in full HD Mode it is truly a fantastic viewing experience. It has a fill/’stretch’ mode and standard 4:3 aspect which helps with standard 480i signals. The non-HD channels are really just passible in terms of quality. Changing channels is a bit sluggish. But for the price (I got the 2 yr replacement too) you MUST check this out. No HDTV I’ve seen at Costco is cheaper OR better than this.

The VIZIO GV42 has significantly less reflection and glare which makes this television ideal in any room lighting situations.

CNet Review: 6.6 out of 10
The good: Inexpensive for a 42-inch LCD; relatively deep black-level reproduction; ample picture controls; comprehensive connectivity with two HDMI and one PC input; detachable speakers.

The bad: Nondefeatable edge enhancement; inaccurate color-temperature presets; less compact than some 42-inch flat-panels.

The bottom line: With picture quality decent enough to satisfy most viewers, the affordable, fully featured Vizio GV42L HDTV is one of the best values among big-screen LCDs.

Again, it is good price and if you just want to tv to your library or workout room, this will do.

Samsung’s new LED Light Engine

Previous DLP HDTVs have used an Arc lamp and color wheel cobination as the source fo light and color for the DLP image. Samsung has replaced this arrangement with an LED light source that produces briliant light with less energy usage, a longer life, and produces better color reproduction by truly mixing red green and blue sources. The result is a more enviornmentally friedly DLP HDTV with better color reproduction and lower operating energy costs than other models can match. And, just as arc lamps in other DLP HDTVs could be easily replaced once they were used up, the LED light engine itself can also be swapped out after it’s 20,000 hour lifespan to bring your DLP HDTV back to like-new condition.

Buyers Reviews are good from Amazon and it is real good price for the size and 1080P TV.

Sony 50″ SXRD HDTV - 1080P $1499 at Circuit City

Posted on 07 July 2007 by hdtv

Sony 50″ SXRD Rear Projection TV - 1080P $1350 ($1499-10%Coupon) at Circuit City

Sony SXRD

• 1080p (1920 x 1080) resolution
• NTSC/ATSC/QAM tuners
• Widescreen (16:9)
• 2 HDMI inputs
• SRS® Trusurround® XT
• WEGA Engine™ system

After a couple months of research and indecision between DLP, LCD Rear Projection, and LCD Flat Panels, I decided on this Sony. I bought into the buzz around SXRD and discovered it is well worth the money! Bought it over the phone through Circuit City andhad it delivered the next day! Be sure not to leave it on the factory settings, otherwise you will have an overly colorful/overly bright tv. After calibrating, I was blown away by the amazing picture! This rear projection HDTV has the best black level I’ve ever seen in a non-plasma tv! I don’t have a 1080p source, but 1080i still looks awesome! I had an HDTV before this one, and the amount of detail produced from this tv totally blows my old tv away! I didn’t test the sound, but not really concerned aboutit because I have a surround sound system. I highly recommend this tv!

PROS:
- 1080p!!
- SXRD technology stands up to the hype
- Very fine detail - can see people’s blemishes on tv shows! (Could be pro or con :p )
- Best black level in a rear projection
- Pixilation almost non-existent from 1080i source (was watching Planet Earth on Discovery HD)
- Standard viewing distance calculation would suggest 12.5 feet for a 50′, but even at 8 feet viewing distance, it still looks very sharp and would have to bevery picky to notice any major pixilation.
- Excellent viewing angles…picture does not look too much light even beyond 60 degrees horizontally.
- Standard def looks fine
- No banding issues
- Pretty accurate colors, once calibrated
- Aesthetically appealing black frame
- While I use the cable company’s HD DVR Box, the TV’s built in HD tuner works great. If you hook up a regular RF cable into the tv and run the cable tv setup, it will find all the HD broadcast channels and quite a few digital channels
-Saves screen settings individually per input
- Tons of inputs!
- Pretty low profile
- Very light for such a large tv
- Setup menus easy to navigate

————–

CONS:
- Takes a minute to start up (30 secs of black screen, then another 30 secs for thepicture to come to full brightness and focus.
- Glossy screen very reflective and hard to watch in the daytime. (The manual recommends not to place tv in room where window is behind viewing position. Unfortunately I don’t have any other options with my current room arrangement…Not Sony’s fault)
- Remote control kinda confusing at first. Takes some getting used to…
- No ‘favorites’ button on remote’favorites’ button on remote

Sounds like great deal if you don’t mine to buy Rear Projection instead of Plasma or LCD TV.
