Samsung’s new LED Light Engine

Previous DLP HDTVs have used an Arc lamp and color wheel cobination as the source fo light and color for the DLP image. Samsung has replaced this arrangement with an LED light source that produces briliant light with less energy usage, a longer life, and produces better color reproduction by truly mixing red green and blue sources. The result is a more enviornmentally friedly DLP HDTV with better color reproduction and lower operating energy costs than other models can match. And, just as arc lamps in other DLP HDTVs could be easily replaced once they were used up, the LED light engine itself can also be swapped out after it’s 20,000 hour lifespan to bring your DLP HDTV back to like-new condition.

Buyers Reviews are good from Amazon and it is real good price for the size and 1080P TV.

DLP

DLP is a technology made by Texas Instruments. It uses a Digital Micromirror Device (DMD) which has approximately one million tiny mirrors to reflect light that creates a digital image. This is considered to be the best digital picture you can get! DLP is said to have a fill-rate of 88%. The fill-rate is determined by how much of the image is made up of elements compared to the space in between the elements. Thus, 88% means the screen is 88% full of color, while 12% of the image is in between those elements.

LCD

LCD stands for Liquid Crystal Display. It has millions of individual LCD elements that are turned on and off to create the colors Red, Green, and Blue. If an element is turned on, light is projected through that specific LCD cell and you see the corresponding color. The fill-rate of LCD is said to be 83%.D-ILA is a type of LCD display that is owned by JVC. D-ILA, unlike LCD, uses a method of reflecting light through the elements twice before being passed to the lens. The fill-rate of D-ILA is said to be 93%.LCOS stands for Liquid Crystal on Silicon and is very similar to the technology of D-ILA, but is instead owned by Hitachi.

Plasma

A plasma screen is different in that it contains millions of compartments that contain noble gases such as Argon, Neon or Xenon. To turn these pixels on a current is passed into the compartment and they turn red, green or blue. This is the exact same technology that is used in Neon signs, except a neon sign usually only has one or two compartments of gas, whereas plasma screens have millions.

1080p is the shorthand name for a category of video modes. The number 1080 represents 1,080 lines of vertical resolution,[1] while the letter p stands for progressive scan or non-interlaced. 1080p is considered an HDTV video mode. The term usually assumes a widescreen aspect ratio of 16:9, implying a horizontal (display) resolution of 1920 dots across and a frame resolution of 1920 × 1080 or about 2.07 million pixels. The frame rate in hertz can be either implied by the context or specified after the letter p (such as 1080p30, meaning 30 frames per second).

1080p is sometimes referred to in marketing materials as “True High-Definition” or “Full High-Definition”. 1080p is currently the digital standard for filming digital motion pictures. Directors such as George Lucas (in Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith) shoot their digital films in this high definition mode to be shown in theaters equipped with 1080p digital projectors.
